A Little Bit About Me
As a doctoral researcher, more commonly known as a PhD candidate, I have been exposed to the true impact research and the application of the new findings can have on both the scientific community and the broader world. I have become passionate about applying this research to people through evolving technologies or improving their understanding of the impacts that research can have on their lives and performance.
My research has focused on the development of understanding the aerosolized particles produced when laser cutting, specifically in the Nuclear Field. Through this, I have gained not only scientific understanding, such as the influence that fluid dynamics can have on the transportation of micro and nano-size particles but a broader understanding of how to efficiently break down large-scale, open-ended problems into manageable tasks and prioritise these tasks to get the highest quality output.
Throughout my PhD, I have relished the opportunity to communicate the science and allow people to understand the impact that the research that I was understanding could have not only on the Nuclear Field but on the wider Laser and Aerosol communities. This has led to internal and external awards for presentations, including a presentation at the International Congress on Applications of Lasers and Electro-Optics for a presentation titled “The Effect of Heat Flux on Fume Generation in Laser Cutting for Nuclear Decommissioning”.
A passion for sport has also always been a huge part of my life. I was fortunate to work as an innovation intern at PING during my degree, and this introduced to me the possibility of integrating my passions for engineering and scientific research and sport. I was fortunate to lead a number of projects, including “The Effects of Rain on Ball Flight”, which was presented at the World Scientific Congress of Golf. The passion for sport and performance improvement has continued throughout my PhD, where I am the offensive line coach for 2 American Football teamn Loughborough University and Tamworth Phoenix, both premier teams in the nation.
Outside work, I am the Loughborough Nightline Coordinator, working to help students in need at Loughborough University. This includes but is not limited to: Ensuring the service meets ethical and legal standards, acting as a figure head for the volunteer pool, sitting on Loughborough University Students Union Welfare and Diversity Committee and integrating Loughborough into the wider Nightline Association, setting key strategic goals.
